A comedian rants about how much it sucks to play Pachelbel’s Canon in D on a cello. Recorded live at Penn State, this piece by comedian/musician Rob Paravonian has been a favorite on the Dr. Demento Show.
In truth, Pachelbels’ Kanon in D is a brilliant exercise of intonation and timing made for non-fretted instrumentalist. To play such a piece on guitar, piano or any other fixed intonation instrument is of no use. To attempt to turn it into a song is an abomination and diminishes the whole point of a Kanon. Those who ridicule it are of the proud-to-be-stupid class. Those who teach it aside from an intonation lesson for strinfs, have no business teaching.

Cellos are not easy to carry…maybe compared to a bass they are, but getting through doors and crowds is a pain with a huge wooden/plastic cello case.

@UberTroll13 As a matter of fact, I between 01-07 I was the lead guitarist in a touring powerpop band, and we closed the set with this song. It’s a great hook, and the lead is really fun to play on guitar.
