Although I am not the least bit fluent in Spanish, I am a fan of this group through both their albums and their hit Novela, "Rebelde", which has a surprisingly strong following in the United States among both Spanish and Non-Spanish speakers alike. Their spanish albums are composed of surprisingly good pop music, with catchy lyrics and melodies, and are vastly superior to the musical "talents" of some of the actors turned singers in this country like Hillary Duff, Lindsay Lohan, and others.

"Rebels" is RBD's attempt to break out into the American pop scene with their first album in english. Unfortunately, what works well on a Latin album in Spanish does not nescessarily translate well to an American Pop album in English. The album is comrprised half of new original tracks written for the album, and half of their original Spanish songs sung in English. The problems with this album though, become clear just in the first track. Shortly after the album begins, it becomes painfully obvious to the listener that none of these kids are fluent English speakers. They seem to have difficulty pronouncing just about everything, and it comes off more like they are just singing English words off their sheet music rather then having the words come out seemlessly like they are actually singing them spontaneously.

The second major problem with this album is with their Spanish songs translated into English. Whoever did this translation needs to go back to English class, because this is almost a complete word for word literal translation from Spanish to English, and it comes off at times as being really silly. What makes sense in Spanish may not translate over to English with quite the same, which definitely takes away some of the impact that these songs might have.

Overall, RBD should probably just stick to their native language. They certainly have the talent to become breakout artists in this country, but the questionable production and poorly written songs aren't going to do them any favors. Until these guys get some better English lessons and a new song writer, stick to their much better spanish albums "Rebelde" and "Celetial"

RBD broke into the Latin pop scene a few years ago through their soap opera and debut album. Since then, they've released albums in both Spanish as well as Portugese and an English language album almost seemed inevitable. And here it is.
Half the songs are new material for this album, and half of them from previous Spanish albums. The most notable problem in this album is the fluency of English from these kids. The accents in most of the songs sound so awkward that you can't even tell what they're saying in many cases. Like many other reviewers stated, it's obvious that they are not fully fluent and simply read off the paper.
The album itself has a misleading title - Rebels. This is anything BUT rebel music. It's filled with lots of teen-pop, and pop-rock.
I'd never been a RBD fan before yet I'd heard of the group.

1. Tu Amor 4/5 - The lead single off the album. It's a great tune and the English sounds passable. It also reminds me of the Backstreet Boys, as it has the same style. This one might make it through the English pop music scene.

2. I Wanna Play 4/5 - A reggeaton-type of song in which the lyrics are a bit cheesy. Yet, I favor this song over many others.

3. My Philosophy - 5/5 - A bit faster than "Tu Amor" and along the lines of Backstreet Boys and also available from the "Celestial" album (in Spanish). It is pleasant, fun to listen to, and the English sounds much better here. This could probably make it as a single. One of my favorites.

4. Connected 3/5 - A rock-pop song maybe, taken from their first Spanish album. The English here is so bad it's distracting and takes away from the song. Still another song that *could* be a single if the English is cleaned up.

5. I Wanna be the Rain - 2/5 - A much slower, darker song and the English here is actually pretty good (at least coming from the guy). Unfortunately, this tune doesn't do anything for me. It's pretty dull, which again, is too bad since the English here is great.

6. Carino Mio - 4/5 - A reggeaton-type with a mixture of English and Spanish, which helps this song passable. The problem with this song is that it does suffer majorly cheesy lyrics (you make me wanna cha-cha, salsa). The lyrics are also somewhat literally translated, making it awkward in some parts. WHat makes me like it so much is the beat.

7. Era la Musica (It was the Music) 3/5 - Another song with English/Spanish mixture to the beat of pop/w mariachi sounds perhaps. Like "I wanna be the Rain", this one isn't too captivating like the others. Still, the beat is fun to dance to. I listen to it once in a while.

8. Keep it Down Low - 4/5 - Taken from their first album, this one has improved instrumentation. It's slow along the lines of My Philosophy (they even almost sound the same!) but this one is not as interesting. The English is passable here, but still awkward in some places.

9. Happy Worst Day 2/5 - Sounds like a Hilary Duff type of song, pop-rock. The English is OK here, but the song is pretty boring for me.

10. This is Love 2/5 - Again, just like a Hilary Duff style song, this one even sounds like "Happy Worst Day." Less interesting than the above. I skip this one over.

11. Save Me - 1/5 - I'm not a big fan of ballads and this one is no exception. I believe this was also taken from their first album, but much improved with more instrumentation. The English is passable, but again, I'm not a ballad fan.

12. Money Money 5/5 - Wow! This song is hot! It's a reggeaton tune produced with Luney Tunes (a popular reggeaton group). This one is all in Spanish and it should stay that way (unless the group can sing English smoothly). Probably one of the best songs on the album!!

13. Tu Amor (Navidad Mix) 1/5 - Just like Tu Amor with some lyrical differences to match the Christmas season. This track wasn't necessary to this album and it feels like a big repeat of track 1. I skip it over.

14. Celestial - 5/5 - This is just a song sampler from their latest Spanish release titled "Celestial." It's great for the English speaking audience to try out what the group can do in Spanish.

All in all, it's something that may take time to adjust to, but it has a lot of great beats if you can block out some of the lyrics. I do recommend it for teenagers, as that seems to be the target audience. I've never been an RBD fan but I love this album so much! I can only hope that RBD can clean up the English and get the songs better translated before they attempt another English release. It remains yet to be seen whether this release will break into the US Pop scene or not, but at least it's fun to listen to.

I've never heard of RBD before. I have seen products featuring them like Calendars and such and I am somewhat aware that they are pretty big Mexico. For some reason, I thought I'd give their english album a try and apparently it was a bad choice. Maybe I'd be singing a different tune had I got one of their Spanish albums but I find that doubtful.
This album both bennefits and suffers due to its singers. The group itself is half good and half bad... and it is rare that the good half is actually the male singers and the bad are the female. Do not get me wrong... I love women with unique voices but the voices here are beyond that: they are grating. The lead female is not a singer by any means... and the fact that has her voice is out there on an album proves that looks really do go a long way. On top of that, it is obvious that this group was never really intended to sing in english... their accents are laughable. The men are nearly as bad but they have strong vocal abilities which makes up for the bad half (although on the song "My Philosophy" the two sets do not merge well at all... making the song oh-so-skipable)
I love pop music... but this is reminiscent of pop music that in plain english sucks. It is over the top bubble gum sugary fluff... and sometimes it is hard to make out what is being said. I like "Tu Amor" and "I Wanna Be the Rain"... and some of the dance numbers are merely serviceable. There isn't really anything that makes this a must have... and it turns out that through complet fault of my own... that this cost me 13 bucks that I'll never get back.
