…then this CD is for you!
I was shopping in an imports store and heard the music and asked about it. I really love the CD and anyone who hears it playing at my house or in my car asks about it. I think it’s because it really transports you.
**PLEASE NOTE** The Amazon site has most if not ALL of the artists names wrong on the CD track listings, so if you look them up based on that, you will hear something completely different than what is actually on the CD. My faves are:
#3 – Charito Vá (artist is Radio Malanga)
#5 – Reggae Rústico (artist is Cultura Profética)
#7 – Si Hecho Palante (artist is Ticklah feat. Mayra Vega)
8 – Pateras (artist is Black Ghandi)
#10 – Libros Sagrados (artist is Gondwana)

Most people these days when they hear “Latin Reggae” think reggaeton – but this new collection from Putumayo is not that. If reggaeton is a Latino version of contemporary Jamaican dancehall, Putumayo’s Latin Reggae is more akin to the roots reggae movement of the 1970s. This album speaks to the far reaching influence of Jamaican music in the Spanish speaking world. “Latin Reggae” is a good laid back party mix with the added novelty of Spanish language sung to reggae rhythms.
For those looking for other classic Latin Caribbean sounds, try these two new releases: Mujer de Cabaret – a debut album by old-time Dominican crooner Puerto Plata and Bachata Roja: Acoustic Bachata From the Cabaret Era, a highly recommended collection of guitar bachatas from before the music went pop.
